LiveFit Challenge Week 8: Kim’s Update

Six Aurora BayCare Medical Center employees have embarked on a wellness challenge that will change their lives forever! Over the next six months, these people will be coached, trained and transformed into triathlon-level athletes through the Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Live Fit program.

Week eight down, personal training is over, and it is almost time for our specific tri-training to begin. Since I had to cancel my personal training appointments for the week, I had to make sure that I remained faithful to this training, and not let go of all the hard work we’ve done. It is quite a bit different to not have someone there telling me what to do, but I am pretty sure that I’m pushing myself in a similar manner to what I would have done if I was with a trainer.

To change things up, and to see where I’ve come, I decided it would be fun to try a mini-tri! So off to the Y I went and swam 20 minutes, biked 20 minutes, and ran 20 minutes. I thought I would really struggle….not only did I NOT struggle (at least not too much), but I also had a LOT of fun!!!! I loved it! I can see this kid getting addicted to this tri stuff! It was so exhilarating to go from sport to sport and feel like I could handle it. I think I will struggle with finding a balance between going too hard too fast and pushing myself just enough to ensure I’ll have energy at the end of the race. But I cannot worry about that yet….we’ve got months to get there!

This week was also my follow-up fitness assessment. I will admit, I was stressing about this one…I knew my initial assessment was rough, but I also know I’ve worked my butt off and I would be disappointed if I could not see results during the assessment. Much to my surprise, I have improved: I’ve lost weight, lost inches, gained strength and endurance, and improved my cardiovascular fitness. I was ecstatic to go from a poor rating on my core abdominal strength at my initial assessment, to an excellent rating during this assessment….and I still felt like I could do more abs!!!! I am loving the new me, loving the changes, and loving the fact that I’m loving this experience!!!!!
