Six Aurora BayCare Medical Center employees have embarked on a wellness challenge that will change their lives forever! Over the next six months, these people will be coached, trained and transformed into triathlon-level athletes through the Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Live Fit program.
This week it has occurred to me how much I have learned through the whole tri-training. Before I started with the 6 pack, I went to the gym 5 or 6 days a week, doing a half hour of cardio and lifting weights. Even though I was doing that, the first group workout was still pretty tough. I honestly did not realize how many different ways you can exercise your different sets of muscles, and found some new sets of muscles when I started working with the personal trainers….and of course ways to work them. I have also entered into the exercise class workout world, and have found some exercise buddies along the way. Working with different groups of people who prefer to do different kinds of exercises at different places keeps me well rounded….and busy!
I had my running analysis with Corey this week, and although I didn’t really care for the watching myself run after, I have gotten past a lot of things in the last few months I didn’t much care for, and of course learned more…how to improve my run so I’m not wasting energy.
I also had my bike fit with Pascal this week…and guess what? Learned some more…phew I’m working on overload here. I learned where exactly on the pedal to place my foot and to think of biking as more of making circles with your feet…meaning try to pull up also, instead of the always pushing down. Combined with the swimming information Junius has given me, I won’t have time for an empty thought while completing the tri.
We also had our first tri class this week, and got to meet some new people. It’s awesome to recognize my fellow 6 packers, and to also see how nervous some of the crowd was. They did the most important thing, though; they got over the fear of commitment and joined up! Way to go guys! We will make new friends along the way, and the support team is awesome at teaching ways to use energy wisely and how to prevent injury, even what may be causing an old ache or pain. Just think of how proud we’ll all be in the end!
