LiveFit Challenge Week 7: Leslie’s Update

Leslie Iles works in Radiology Services at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

Six Aurora BayCare Medical Center employees have embarked on a wellness challenge that will change their lives forever! Over the next six months, these people will be coached, trained and transformed into triathlon-level athletes through the Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Live Fit program.

Since I began this journey, I told people that it is about me and what I can accomplish, crossing something off my bucket list but deep down I was proving a point to everyone. I was proving to all the naysayers that think I can’t do this that I can. It started consuming my thoughts and I lost focus to what I was really doing.

I finally had that “aha moment” that Jessica Jacobs said we would have during our training. I had just finished with my trainer, walked to my car and just started sobbing. Out of nowhere the tears started flowing and they weren’t the tears that could be easily stopped. I cried all the way home probably a good hour before I stopped. At the time I wasn’t sure if I was mentally and physically exhausted and my workout did me in or if it was that moment where I finally realized what all this training was for. After I was able to compose myself the light went on, yes I was mentally and physically exhausted but I had my “aha moment.”

My “aha moment” brought me back and the little voice in my head said “you are training for yourself and only yourself.” I’m not training to prove a point to anyone, I’m training to better myself, my life, my future.
