LiveFit Challenge Week 5: Amy’s Update

Amy Fischer is a registered nurse at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

Six Aurora BayCare Medical Center employees have embarked on a wellness challenge that will change their lives forever! Over the next six months, these people will be coached, trained and transformed into triathlon-level athletes through the Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Live Fit program.

So how are things going this week? I do have to bring up my biggest accomplishment; I did the Seroogy’s in 37 minutes!!!! My last 5k was 50 minutes.  I’m not trying to brag, but I am feeling great about this and definitely noticing differences in myself.  More and  more of that “I can’t” attitude turns into “I can” or “I don’t know, but I’ll try.”  These improvements certainly did not happen overnight, but neither did the routine I was in about a year ago.  We are an instant gratification society, and when we start out to lose weight, and keep stepping on the scale without change, we quit….I’ve been on that roller coaster for many years, and hope I don’t ever go back there again.  I hope by working out and feeling good I keep on being active even after the triathlon challenge is over.  According to Junius it’s, “All about taking it to the next level.”  What will that be for me? Another sprint triathlon, a full triathlon, a half marathon…perhaps just improving speed.  And, of course, passing on healthy, active lifestyles to my family.  Getting the family active is what it’s all about.  All the training for me makes me a better person all around, more energy to complete more tasks, spend more time with the kids….but hopefully the activity level passes on to them also.

It was awesome to see the rest of the group on Saturday, and talk about everyone’s accomplishments!  I do have to admit, I don’t really read the blogs, it’s embarrassing to read something you wrote about yourself.  It is almost as embarrassing as the Paparazzi coming to take pictures while you’re a big pile of sweat.

I do notice friends wanting to do more ‘work out’ things with me.  I think that’s pretty cool, you get to hang out, and finish the workout all in one visit.  Then you feel better about yourself for doing so!
