LiveFit Challenge Week 5: Kim’s Update

Kim Colantuono is a registered nurse at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

Six Aurora BayCare Medical Center employees have embarked on a wellness challenge that will change their lives forever! Over the next six months, these people will be coached, trained and transformed into triathlon-level athletes through the Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Live Fit program.

Kim shares with us her insights after week 5:

So Saturday was our first time meeting again as a group after our initial kick-off day and I was excited because I hadn’t seen anyone in a while. We did a group spin class followed by a group swim…and we laughed and we sweat thru our shirts and we kicked in the pool until our legs were cooked! I was nervous about the swim because I had never swam in a lap pool before. Swimming in my parents 24-foot round pool really is not conducive to learning how to swim freestyle. But I was ready to try…and I had a BLAST! I was exhausted at the end of our 2.5 hour workout, but I was exhilarated! Because I worked out on Saturday, I was going to take Sunday off. But just as I sent a text to my sister saying that I was going to take a nap, something came over me and I decided I wanted to swim instead. I decided to go to the YMCA with a close friend of mine and when I said I was going, she said, “Who are you?” because the old me would have NEVER gone to workout on a Sunday. But off to the Y we went and swam for an hour…again, exhausted when I was finished, but so happy I went!

Now it’s Monday, and we were trying to plan what we were going to eat for dinner-I suggested a chicken wrap, and again I got the “Really? Who are you?” The old me would have said pizza or pasta of some sort…but never chicken! My body is now craving (and enjoying) healthier food! Yes there is still MUCH room left for improvement in my diet, but I am getting better…and every day I’m trying to eat right. Although I’m hesitant to get on the scale, because I don’t want to focus so much on the weight, I can tell my clothes are definitely fitting better. I know that everyone talks about tightening their belt to a new notch, but today, I had to tighten my watch to a new notch…because how I always used to wear it is now too loose on my wrist!! Tiny improvements…but I can tell I’m discovering a new, healthier, and happier me!
