LiveFit Challenge Week 3: Dr. John Utrie

Six Aurora BayCare Medical Center have embarked on a wellness challenge that will change their lives forever! Over the next six months, these people will be coached, trained and transformed into triathlon-level athletes through the Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Live Fit program.  Follow their journey with weekly updates!

Dr. John Utrie is a fellowship-trained urogynecologist and OB/GYN at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

Dr. John Utrie recaps his experience during the third week of training:

“Keeping up with the program and starting to figure out more and more.  Ran in the Graviton treadmill again.  Once I stopped laughing it was kind of fun.  It will be interesting to see if running without help and 30 fewer pounds will be the same!

So far, the challenge has been to make time to exercise  — and figure out if taking a day off is being lazy or smart.  It’s also hard to train without someone pushing you.  With the internet and all the portable devices out there it is amazing the resources available. If you need something to help,  it is probably available.   Lots of apps are available to keep you honest and track progress.

Working on the treadmill with a steep incline was the novelty this week.   It is strange walking\running with a 21 degree incline.  Training is so much different back in high school . Sometimes I wonder if all this newfangled stuff is make-believe or just the latest trend.  I will say my son really benefited from the programs in Sports Medicine when he was in high school. Even though he cant bench as much as I could,  he is a much better athlete for the newer concepts.

So far the ole body is feeling pretty good with all the effort.   Not as many aches and pains as I expected.  I suspect the training team is just getting us ready for bigger challenges!”

Keep up the great work, it will get easier!! I agree it’s hard to find time and found that if I don’t do it in the AM I find lots of excuses not to do it at all. You are an inspiration!!!!

  2. Dominick Utrie says:

Whoa, whoa, whoa…knocking on my bench? Yeah, i got nothing. The proof is in the numbers, but HEY sounds like things are going well! Keep up the good work, dad. I’m proud of you for keeping up with this and it’s fun to follow! Back to studying. Love you!

  3. Sara says:

Very proud of you!! When a trainer friend of mine asked “is one of your brothers training for a triathalon?” I immediately thought of each one of my brothers…hmmm. “Sure” I said, “but he doesn’t live in town.” She assured me that this brother lived in GB and was a MD. Again I thought…”it could be my brother who lives in Appleton.” Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be YOU!! Congratulations on your determination and perseverence. Keep up the awesome work…you can do it!! ❤ SRJ
