LiveFit Challenge Week 2: Dr. John Utrie

Dr. John Utrie is a fellowship-trained urogynecologist and OB/GYN practicing at Aurora BayCare Medical Center.

Six Aurora BayCare Medical Center have embarked on a wellness challenge that will change their lives forever! Over the next six months, these people will be coached, trained and transformed into triathlon-level athletes through the Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Live Fit program.  Follow their journey with weekly updates!

Man,  the week seems longer than it was.  Last Friday,  I crawled out of the gym after (my trainer) Junius beat me up. Hoping to take it easy over the weekend, but  my plans backfired when I attended a Saturday morning cardio class.  Spent most of the day is a daze after being humiliated doing all sorts of strange poses. It looks easy,  but it is not. You feel a lot of muscles that you didn’t know existed.

Sunday was a walk and suffering the Packers end their season in humiliating fashion. There’s always next year. Too many calories in beer,  so I had to bear the pain unassisted. It is hard to add recreational items to my food log and waste all the hard work.  The food log can be a taskmaster.

The week ended in a hilarious way. I was turned into a Jack-in-the-box!

The training/rehab center has this treadmill that is antigravitational. The whole idea is to relieve the legs of some of your extra weight and work on running form.  I envisioned running in water or some fancy spring thing.  Nope.  You put on these neoprene shorts with a 12 inch skirt around the waist.  There is this zipper circumferentially around the entire thing and you jump into a little tent shrouding the treadmill.  The tent raises up to waist level and you zip in.  Your whole lower half is in a bubble and air blows in filling the tent and raises your body.  Next you start to move and eventually run.

The whole thing looks ridiculous, but it really lets you feel good running. It is sort of a preview to what it would feel like if you lost a bunch of weight.

Looking forward to another exciting week!
